In the late afternoon of Friday 21 June the Carabinieri of the Radiomobile Unit of the Tuscan capital organized a service aimed at drug checks in the park in via del Mezzetta (Coverciano). In the area they noticed a person of foreign origin, in a suspicious attitude together with two other men, who, upon seeing the patrol, tried to warn of the arrival of the police. Hence the escape of the three young people who left around twenty grams of cocaine on a table, a good part of which had already been divided into doses ready to be placed on the market. Together with the narcotic substance, the young offenders abandoned the material needed for weighing and packaging the drugs.

Once the three young people had disappeared, the Carabinieri began chasing them, managing to reach one who, in his escape towards the Bellariva gardens, made the dangerous and reckless gesture of trying to get rid of some doses of cocaine, remained in his availability, throwing them in an area dedicated to hosting a summer center for children under 10 years old.

Having reached and promptly blocked the culprit, the Carabinieri were primarily concerned with the protection of children: the recreational activity of the latter was interrupted, with the collaboration of the staff and the gardener of the green area, who promptly rushed to the request of the military, they inspected the sector concerned and made sure, briefing the children, leading them to believe that it was “poison”, that none of the approximately 100 minors present had inadvertently taken or ingested anything.

The subject, only 18 years old, was then taken to the Florence Santa Maria Novella CC Station where he was arrested for possession of a narcotic substance for the purpose of dealing aggravated by the fact that the crime was committed in the vicinity of a community youth and translated, available to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Florence, at the Sollicciano prison.

Also on Friday, the Carabinieri also proceeded with the release of a 24-year-old Florentine man who, having been checked along Viale Volta aboard a vehicle, attracted the attention of the military. The young man’s restless attitude at the time of the check led the military to investigate further. This is how a quantity of hashish was found, already divided into doses and ready for sale, as well as a significant sum of money. The boy was then taken to the barracks in via Farini and released in a state of freedom for detention for the purpose of dealing drugs. However, the presumption of innocence applies to those under investigation until their guilt is ascertained with an irrevocable sentence.
