The Temenos Multipurpose Social Center risks closing, appeal to the Mayor – BisceglieLive.it

It is a race against time: by June 30, in the absence of clear answers, the structure could definitively close its doors and also lose the service vouchers from the Puglia Region.

The appeal was launched by the parents of the children welcomed in the Temenos Multipurpose Social Centre, together with the educators and social workers of the structure which has been managing a day center for psychiatric rehabilitation since 1993 in agreement with the ASL BT, open 12 hours a day, 6 days a week .

Here is the text of the letter addressed to the Mayor Angelantonio Angarano:

«All of us, parents, educators, social workers, OSS, children, feeling part of the large family of the “Temenos Multipurpose Social Centre”, turn to you with this letter to report an issue that is close to our hearts and to raise a debate that It seems relevant to us and worthy of considerable attention.

Unfortunately, the Temenos Multipurpose Social Centre, the only one of its kind in the city area, could definitively cease its activity in a few days, despite being not only considered the “flagship” of the city of Bisceglie, but above all indispensable for around 30 families with children disabled minors, in many cases coming from problematic socio-cultural contexts.

It is easy to understand how all families now feel they are sinking into complete despair and abandoned by the institutions which should instead protect the weakest, maintaining faith in all the intentions of support and inclusiveness worthy of a civil society. Abandoned by the institutions because their rights are not recognised, where their disabilities specifically require specialist support and intervention, which up to now has been excellently guaranteed by the Center
Social Multipurpose Temenos.

We would like to underline that our little ones, although with disabilities, are also citizens and in a few years they will be part of the adult community. Also envisage
for them, a future of dignity and civil coexistence would benefit the whole of society. Just as all parents wish the best for their children, we would too
continue to give our children in difficulty new educational experiences, greater tools for personal growth and better future life prospects,
considering that many do not have these opportunities. In order to continue in this direction, unfortunately, the commitment of the educational staff, the perseverance and stubbornness of the families are not enough, there is also a need for a small economic support from the Municipality of Bisceglie, led by an administration to which, we are rest assured, all this is important, since the presence of a service that manages to design a possible future for children with disabilities and adaptive difficulties is necessary and useful for the well-being of the whole society.

We hope that our words can become a starting point for discussion and reflection for everyone.”
