In the late afternoon of June 21st, in the Mannarelle district, in an apartment on the outskirts of Vico del Gargano, a family homicide took place. A man murdered his 39-year-old son-in-law with rifle shots, probably at the height of a ferocious argument. The alleged killer was a retired employee of the regional agency for irrigation and forestry activities. Father-in-law and son-in-law lived in the same building.
The Carabinieri of the Vico company who intervened on site together with the 118 operators are investigating the incident.
Incredulous community in shock over the violent death of Davide Mastromatteo, construction worker and volunteer of the Giacche Verdi Gruppo Gargano, the civil protection association which commented on the tragic news on the dedicated Facebook page: “There are not enough words to express the pain and shock we felt upon learning of the tragic loss of our dear friend and fellow volunteer Davide. His passing leaves an unfillable void in our lives and in our hearts. Davide was an extraordinary person, always ready to help and share a smile. His kindness, his spirit and his friendship will forever remain in our most precious memories. In this moment of profound pain all the volunteers of the Puglia green jackets are close to the family. We share this pain together and remember Davide for the wonderful person he was.”

The mayor Raffaele Sciscio also expressed his opinion on the matter: “As Mayor, but above all as a man, and as a family man, I am literally shocked by the news that reached me yesterday while I was traveling back from Rome, of the tragedy that occurred in the late afternoon. I have no words to describe what happened. I am shocked, but also angry, demoralized: we are committed to raising awareness in our community against violence of all kinds, then we find a young father killed in this barbaric way in his own home. I knew Davide well, a boy involved in volunteering for the civil protection of our country, always ready to give his contribution for the common good. In transmitting a warm embrace from the citizens of Vico, as Mayor, I feel the pain of an entire community on my shoulders and in my heart. I extend our condolences to the Mastromatteo family.”
Out of respect for the pain caused by the tragic event, the Municipality has canceled the Romantic Night event scheduled for Sunday evening: “We believe that now is the time for silence and sharing in the mourning of the family and all the people who loved Davide.”
