Trains, works on the Bologna-Portomaggiore and Bologna-Prato lines

A 10% discount on the train pass, monthly or annual, for commuters on the Bologna-Prato and Bologna-Portomaggiore lines.

The regional council decided this to accommodate season ticket holders, recognizing the inevitable inconvenience produced by the works in progress along the two railway lines, with the aim of encouraging the choice of public transport over private transport, which is less sustainable, in the period duration of construction sites where the use of the replacement bus service is envisaged.

The incentive is intended for public transport subscribers on the Bologna-Prato or Bologna-Portomaggiore railway lines who use the self-replacement service also in combination with the train. However, the routes that maintain the railway service and season ticket holders in the urban area of Bologna are excluded, given the versatility of use of the ticket which cannot be traced back to just the two lines affected by the works.

“We are committed to strengthening the railway lines, to have an increasingly modern and competitive railway service in order to guarantee better quality for passengers – comments the Councilor for Transport and Infrastructure, Andrea Corsini -. The inconveniences are inevitable, but we must keep in mind the objective of these works which, as a Region, we are supporting. The 10% incentive aims to reward and, at the same time, push commuters to still prefer the train season ticket. A responsible choice towards sustainable mobility, with less impact on the environment and safer”.

The incentives

The incentives are applied during the periods of closure of the sections: for the Bologna-Prato line starting from June 2024 and until the end of the works for the periods of continuous closure and for the Bologna-Portomaggiore line starting from December 2024, always until completion of the works.

To obtain a 10% refund, subscribers to the Bologna-Prato line will have to send to the Fer Company, using forms that will be made available on the website https://fer.it/ at the end of the continuous closure (roughly from September/October), documents certifying the cost incurred, the validity of the season ticket (copy of the paper season ticket and/or payment receipt/travel reminder containing the user’s personal data and/or tax code, transport company, route travel, cost, validity) and residence in Emilia-Romagna in the case of a supra-regional subscription.

The residents of San Benedetto Val di Sambro already benefit from the relief provided for the Municipalities involved in hydrocarbon extraction activities, i.e. the reimbursement of 100% of the expenses incurred for those under 26 and 70% for all others on the annual subscription .

For the Bologna – Portomaggiore line, the Tper company will issue, starting from the start of the new works (approximately December 2024) and during the continuous closure period, monthly and annual season tickets, including those under 27, already discounted by 10% of the list price.
