about a hundred migrants transferred

The operation to clear the Silos of Trieste by the police began at 7 this morning. Everything took place in complete tranquility.

State Police, Carabinieri, Civil Protection, Local Police, Financial Police, health personnel, but also representatives of associations dealing with reception arrived on site.

Garrisons have been set up by the police at the entrances to the silos. Some gazebos were then erected at the back of the structure, where surveys were carried out by the police and where the migrants underwent their first health checks. This morning inside the silo, a dilapidated structure without any services, owned by Coop Alleanza 3.0, there were less than a hundred migrants. Others, who probably knew about the eviction, were already ready with backpacks and trolleys.

The migrants were made to leave the Silos in via Flavio Gioia one by one and then boarded police vehicles. The structure was cleared after a couple of hours. Inside there were piles of waste, some tents used as shelter, and signs of total degradation, linked to the hygienic-sanitary conditions. As for the destination of the migrants, the Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi, in recent days in Gorizia, made it known that the intention was to transfer them to reception centers outside the city and outside the region.

The silo, we remember, had over time become a place of shelter for hundreds of migrants coming from the ‘Balkan route’. The structure ended up at the center of controversy due to the conditions in which foreigners lived there.
