Bari, Capriati murder: Angela De Cosmo released from prison

Angela De Cosmo, 35, has been released. The woman was present with Raffaele ‘Lello’ Capriati on the evening of April 1st, when the latter was killed in an ambush in the Torre a Mare district, south of Bari. Capriati, nephew of the boss Antonio Capriati of Bari Vecchia, was considered an important figure in the mafia clan of the same name.

De Cosmo was accused of illegal possession and carrying of a firearm in a public place with the aggravating circumstance of mafia. However, the Court of Review of Bari, chaired by Annachiara Mastrorilli, ordered his release by accepting the appeal of the lawyer Pino Giulitto. The decision cancels the precautionary custody order issued on 3 June by investigating judge Francesco Vittorio Rinaldi at the request of the Prosecutor’s Office.

The investigations conducted by the Bari flying squad revealed that, after the shooting, De Cosmo waited for the ambulance to arrive and then fled in the car with Capriati’s gun. Eyewitness testimonies were fundamental for the reconstruction of events.

De Cosmo’s lawyer highlighted that, during the interrogation, the suspect answered all the investigating judge’s questions, rejecting the accusations. The Court of Review established a deadline of 45 days for filing the reasons for the provision.
