The announcement was made by the Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, in a conference at the ministry in Via Veneto together with the top management of the Singaporean multinational. The company, a leader in the semiconductor sector, had announced in March a 3.2 billion euro investment in Italy for a plant to produce chiplets, which will create direct employment and new opportunities in the related industries: 1,600 jobs are expected. The plant, which should start production in 2028, will churn out chips for applications in artificial intelligence, high-speed computing, large-scale linguistic models, electric vehicles, smart devices and mobile devices.

“It will be the first plant for the production of chiplets in Europe – confirms Urso – the investment adds to others already announced. It is the demonstration of the validity of our strategic plan on microelectronics which will have a driving effect on chip investments in Italy to which is accompanied by our political and institutional action. We want to welcome companies that want to strengthen our manufacturing capacity, Silicon Box is a leader in the production of chiplets”. In the meantime, the minister underlines, recalling the 9 billion euros invested in Italy in microelectronics, “we have established the foundation on chips in Pavia and we are in the process of being set up in Turin to launch the foundation for artificial intelligence for industry”. “It is convenient to come to Piedmont – assures the governor Alberto Cirio – this is the first step to build an Italian Silicon Valley, and a revenge of the old industrial triangle Milan-Turin-Genoa which today returns thanks to our infrastructures. In the future all goods they will travel on the Genoa-Rotterdam and on the Lisbon-Kiev route, so we will become attractive again for investments”. – Photo: xp3/Italpress -(ITALPRESS). xp3/col4/red 28-Jun-24 13:56 .
