After London, Madrid, Istanbul, Athens – just to mention some of the European capitals that have hosted Seyo -, Pesaro will welcome this great youth orchestra with members from all over Europe and their teachers, who will play together to break down social barriers and counteract the climate change. The venue is very special: the Rossini Shipyard, a latest generation shipyard in glass, aluminum and wood, which connects sky and sea and, if necessary, transforms into an unconventional concert hall.

In addition to historical directors of El Sistema and SEYO such as the Venezuelans Ron Davis Alvarez, Juan Carlos Maggiorani and Etienne Abelin, There will be an exceptional person conducting in Pesaro: Maestro Roberto Abbado, who will lead the ensemble in the performance of one of the five Lieder for voice and orchestra composed by Gustav Mahler between 1901 and 1904 on the texts of the poet Friedrich Rückert . Specifically it is about Ich atmet’ einen linden Duft (I breathed a sweet perfume), a delicate song with a summer setting, where the protagonist is a lime tree. The Japanese will interpret it Aya Wakizonowhich also has another piece planned for mezzo soprano, choir and orchestra: è Seeds of Hope, written by Joyce DiDonato, ambassador of the SEYO project. Also on the podium will be two young conductors on the crest of the wave: the Italian-French Charlotte Politi and the Cypriot Kyriaki Kountouri

The repertoire includes pieces that range from the heart of European classical and symphonic music to the South American popular tradition. The music critic’s dramaturgy will guide the audience Guido Barbieri, written specifically for SEYO 2024, always on the themes of sustainability and nature. To enhance the green side of the event, part of the scenography of the concert at the Rossini shipyard will be made with recycled plastic bottles, collected by the students of the Marconi musical high school and the Santa Marta hotel and catering institute, in collaboration with the Magazzini Rossini project of the Rossini Opera Festival and the Roman set designer Alessandra Solimene.

The evening of July 20th will be just the tip of the iceberg of an engaging Summer Camp, from July 13th to 21st: SEYO musicians, coming from 19 different European countries, will arrive a week before the concert, with their teachers, together with 15 prestigious coaches who will dedicate themselves to perfecting the various musical sections and conductors.

The title of this edition – Song for the Earth – clearly reveals the intent of the event: to emphasize the value of musical education also to raise awareness of environmental sustainability and combat climate change, always hand in hand with the valorization of social equity . Also given the choice of central Italy, recently hit by catastrophic climatic events such as earthquakes and floods, the organization will pay particular attention to the nature that surrounds us, starting from the choice of musical pieces, centered on the theme, but also through the choice of the Rossini Shipyard location as it is a structure very close to zero emissions, the use of green means of transport, zero waste practices, eco-sustainable catering, reusable merchandising, and other eco-friendly initiatives.

«Music is necessary for life. It can change it, improve it, and in some cases it can even save it.” It is the phrase that welcomes visitors to the website of the LiberaMusica association, founded in Pesaro in 2015. Words full of enthusiasm and meaning that were pronounced by Maestro Claudio Abbado and fully reflect the mission of LiberaMusica: promoting the social inclusion of children and girls through music. An objective that comes from overseas, from Venezuela to be precise, where El Sistema was born in 1975, a social project and educational model, conceived by the Venezuelan musician and activist José Antonio Abreu, who has given life to large-scale youth orchestras all over the world. success and trained famous future artists, such as Gustavo Dudamel, a Venezuelan violinist and conductor who started playing at the age of 10 thanks to El Sistema. Abbado was among its greatest supporters and contributed to promoting the spread of El Sistema in Italy starting from 2009. Music, through collective and harmonious expressions such as the orchestra and the choir, thus becomes “a school of society”, accessible to everyone, to enhance passion, commitment and talent.
