SAN BENEDETTO Like the keel of a ship from which you can admire the beauties of Marche and Abruzzo, the details of the project for the cycle-pedestrian bridge over the Tronto were revealed on the day of delivery of the works to the company awarded the contract (Euroimpresa srl of Messina).

The green light

The keys were officially delivered in the Sentina Reserve, right where the bridge is expected to pass on the left bank. Present for the occasion were the infrastructure councilors of the Marche and Abruzzo regions, Francesco Baldelli and Umberto D’Annuntiis, the regional councilor and Andrea Assenti, together with the technicians and mayors of Martinsicuro and San Benedetto, Massimo Vagnoni and Antonio Spazzafumo: «The bridge is a great opportunity for our territory, for tourism that looks at the environment, a structure that will unite Marche and Abruzzo even more”.

The project

Cutting-edge solutions were adopted in the project which minimize the impact of the work on the environment, starting from the color which blends in with the surrounding nature. Its shape pays homage to the local navy, the bridge in fact has a shell structure, as if it were the hull of a boat under construction that connects the cities of San Benedetto and Martinsicuro. 130 meters long, the bridge rests on four pillars and is approximately 4 and a half meters wide. Wooden flooring, has a cycle and pedestrian section. The structure can also be implemented if necessary.

The investment

The value of the work is three and a half million euros; the works will start shortly and will last a year. The bridge represents a great opportunity for sustainable tourism in Marche and Abruzzo.

Tourism

«San Benedetto is a flag for tourism in the Marche and for the GDP of our region linked to tourist services – states Baldelli – the step forward we wanted to take is to create works of art like this bridge that crosses the river. For us it is an important investment for the completion of the Adriatic cycle route.” A day of celebration also for Abruzzo which had been waiting for the work for a long time: «Today we put an end to so many controversies artfully mounted during the electoral campaign – remarked D’Annuntiis – the bridge will be built». «A clear answer: Municipalities and Regions have worked with the facts – concludes Vagnoni – there is no longer a river that divides us, but a bridge that unites us».
