“Asteroid fragment disintegrated in the sky”

The roar heard on the Island of Elba and more generally on the entire Tuscan coast was apparently caused by a fragment of an asteroid that disintegrated in the Earth’s atmosphere. This is said by Marco Morelli, director of the Parsec Foundation which also manages the Tuscan Geophysical Institute and the Italian Museum of Planetary Sciences.

The first scientific explanations have arrived relating to the roar felt along almost the entire Tuscan coast, primarily on the Island of Elba. According to the Tuscan Geophysical Institute, it may have been a fragment of an asteroid that disintegrated in the atmosphere terrestrial which generated a large amount of energy. This is confirmed Marco Morelli, director of the Parsec Foundation which, among other things, also manages the Tuscan Geophysical Institute and the Italian Museum of Planetary Sciences.

According to Morelli, by completely shattering the asteroid it may have lost some small pieces of extraterrestrial rock into the sea off the coast of Tuscany. Residents on social media they reported houses shaking and windows shaking from the crash. The President of the Region, Eugenio Giani, commented on what he had heard about 20 minutes after the incident. “An earthquake on Elba” he had written on Telegram, but many pointed out that the INGV had not reported any earthquake.

After a while, the President of the Region recanted. No earthquake or sonic boom, as hypothesized later. The explanation came from the source of the Tuscan Geophysical Institute, which cross-referenced the data with those of the INGV and the University of Florence. At 4.29pm yesterday, Thursday 20 June, the seismo-acoustic station installed at the Secchetto sports field, in Campo nell’Elba, recorded a very strong seismic acoustic signal, according to what was found in the report.

A roar was heard on the Tuscan coast, Ingv: “It’s not an earthquake”. Sonic bang hypothesis

The cause would have been the impact of the fireball with the atmosphere. Calculations have identified the source of the signal south of Monte Cristo Island. The signal detected on Elba is ten times greater than previously recorded events and the release of energy generated by the impact of the fireball with the atmosphere would have been detected even in Valle d’Aosta.
