Murder in Cagliari: the tragic crime in a building in via Podgora – The point with Luigi Almiento, journalist from L’Unione Sarda

A tragic murder has shaken Cagliari last night. In a popular building in via Podgora, a 77-year-old man, Luciano Hellies, stabbed his 59-year-old wife, Ignazia Tumatis, to death during a furious argument. The horrible crime occurred after yet another argument, shortly after 11pm: “The marriage had ended a long time ago and the age difference between husband and wife didn’t help”declared the journalist from L’Unione Sarda Luigi Almiento to the microphones of Radiolina.

Investigations underway

The couple’s daughters raised the alarm, who, sensing the gravity of the situation, went to their parents’ house. Once there, they found the mother lying in a pool of blood and the father in shock. The only words of Luciano Hellies would have been: “He laughed in my face and I never saw him again.” They were the first to arrive at the crime scene police patrols who immediately stopped the man.

Subsequently, the flying squad officers took over the suspect. An ambulance from 118 also intervened on the scene, but unfortunately attempts to resuscitate the woman were in vain. The Police have started an investigation to reconstruct the exact dynamics of what happened. At the moment, investigators are collecting all the testimonies and useful elements to better understand what triggered the fatal argument. The entire community of Cagliari is in shock over this tragic event, which has left a family destroyed and many questions still unanswered.
