The day center for brain-injured young people turns 40

40 years have passed since the day health center for brain-injured young people was opened in Prato. To celebrate the anniversary, the Opera Santa Rita Foundation, which manages the structure, decided to organize a party attended by guests, family members and operators. Also present was the mayor of Prato Ilaria Bugetti.
The first center was opened in 1984. Ten years later it was integrated and expanded into the new structure in via Bisori, named in memory of Franco Primi – child neuropsychiatrist who passed away in June 1993 – built as a gift from the citizens to bishop Gastone Simoni for his entry in the Diocese of Prato. And last night Franco Primi’s daughter, Caterina, also attended the party.

The purpose of the Franco Primi day center is the functional rehabilitation of subjects with neuromotor disabilities and severe mental retardation. It is authorized to welcome 22 guests with serious or very serious neuropsychological pathologies.
The clinical rehabilitation path includes evaluation, diagnosis, the individual rehabilitation plan, treatments and activities, verification of the effectiveness of the individual rehabilitation plan.
The team is multidisciplinary and is made up of a rehabilitation therapist, educators, psychologist, neuropsychomotricist, music therapist, nurse and 4 OSS. The medical team is made up of a child psychiatrist and physiatrist.

One of the objectives of the Center is to continue the search for new intervention models to offer new experiences, especially in the relational and communicative field, capable of raising the level of the person’s quality of life.
“40 years is an important milestone – commented the president of the Opera Santa Rita Foundation Renza Sanesi – the center for young brain-injured people was an innovative experience at the time, because nothing similar existed in the area. We started with 6 kids, some of whom still attend the center today. This structure has helped and supported the children on a path to improving their quality of life, also giving relief and support to their families.”
The day center in via Bisori is a healthcare facility accredited by the Tuscany Region and affiliated with the ASL Toscana Centro.
