Canned stories bring new narratives with kamishibai in Varese

Images and words of the narratives with the kamishibai return to be the protagonists of the Varese summer with the event of Saturday 29 June at 4pm “Stories in a box”.
Promoted by the Parole in viaggio association and hosted in the Veratti room, the event takes up the threads of the passion that germinated in the city between the summer and autumn of 2023.

At its core are engaging stories told with kamishibai, theatrical language made of images and words and built around the butai, the traditional Japanese wooden theater carried by bicycle, from village to village, by storytellers: the kamishibaia. Cradled by the words, the images flow one after the other in the theater with a strong evocative and communicative power that captures the audience.

MAGIC IN A BOX

Last summer over 600 people of all ages became passionate about kamishibai theater thanks to the review The Magic Box. The project, promoted by the Teatro di Varese and Parole in viaggio, brought about ten shows to the city in July 2023, through itinerant stages along the cycle path on Lake Varese and then in the splendid gardens of the most beautiful villas in Bosine.
A success accompanied by exhibitions, training events, special meetings for schools and culminating in the International Festival of Author’s Kamishibai, hosted by Spazio Yak and Fondazione Morandini.

With “Stories in a Box” we want to fuel the interest and pleasure that attracted so many audiences around the events dedicated to kamishibai last summer, proposing new narratives”, he says Gianluca Fiore, president of Parole in viaggio.
“We are preparing new narratives inspired by the most iconic and entertaining passages of the great classics like Don Quixote or the meeting between the bravos and Don Abbondio in The Betrothed”, he anticipates.

STORIES IN A CAN

Given the spiteful weather this summer which is slow to take off and thanks to the patronage of the Municipality, this time the kamishibai narrations of the Stories in a Box on 29 June will be hosted in the Veratti room, which had already hosted workshops and themed exhibitions.
«Under the marvelous frescoes of the room, four kamishibaia of Words traveling with theirs butai created specifically for the occasion, will tell new stories to families, for an afternoon of wonder and fun in one of the most beautiful places in the city”, adds Fiore.

Participation is free and open to all, without the need to book. Anyone who wishes can leave a free donation at the end of the show to help cover the cost of materials.
