The other evening some young people belonging to the Network of middle school students and the Sapienza University Left were attacked while returning from the demonstration in defense of the Constitution in Piazza Santi Apostoli in Rome.
The video of the beating, which went viral and shows the perpetrators beating the students, was filmed by one of the victims with his own cell phone. One, in particular, was kicked while he was lying on the ground.
“One of the attacked – says the Fiumicino PD group leader, Ezio Di Genesio Pagliuca– it’s a boy resident in the Municipality of Fiumicino, who has been committed to issues concerning young people and university students for years. As far as we know, Digos investigations quickly led to the identification of those responsible for the attack. They are fascists from Colle Oppio and the basis of the beating is exclusively their different political orientation.
But there was no doubt that it was a real fascist and squad-based beating and something like this cannot be tolerated. It is unthinkable that today you risk your life if you hold a red flag in your hand.
We are really worried about the climate that has been felt in the country recently and we hope for state intervention in order to proceed with the dissolution of these fascist organizations.
We express our closeness to the boys who were attacked and in particular to our fellow citizen who fortunately is well.”
“Kicking and punching students returning from a demonstration with a flag in the center of Rome are the ‘peaceful and democratic’ response of that gloomy and fascist undergrowth that the republican constitution had relegated to the margins of society”, the entire opposition council group of the Municipality of Fiumicino stated this in a note.
“It seems, unfortunately – continues the note – that students are prohibited from expressing their ideas and defending their history.
Among the group of victims of the attack documented on video, there is also a student from Fiumicino to whom we express all our solidarity and closeness.
The administration of our city, which spends itself in statements of solidarity with a majority councilor for a private dispute, is otherwise silent on a very serious episode which involved one of our fellow citizens and other students in an unmotivated and cowardly attack.
But we are no longer surprised by anything, after all episodes like this have been the subject of pride in the not too distant past of the current majority”.
“We have some kids – underlines the opposition municipal councilor, Giuseppe Miccoli – who deal with the future and present of the world. We have enormous responsibilities towards them but we must support beauty, sensitivity, strength and a clear and clean gaze.
The fascist squadristi will not be able to stop the kids with clean eyes and clean ideas with their vulgar violence. I express solidarity with Leone. to the others who were attacked and to the families who raised these children in the values of justice, freedom and above all anti-fascist. Fascism is the denial of the beauty of culture and life. They won’t pass, we are anti-fascists.”
