«Project on the future of Loggia and Broletto»

From the city to the province, the centre-right and centre-left together plan the public transport of the future. Emilio Del Bono, the creator of the Urban Sustainable Mobility Plan of Bresciasuggests to the majority and minority in the Lodge to unanimously approve the definitive project of the tramway (line T2) in the city council meeting on Monday 24 June. «I hope there will be a unified vote. The time of maturity has arrived for the entire political class of our territory.”

The centre-right exponents have proposed the extension of the metro line towards Val Trompia and towards Rezzato. A valid perspective according to the vice-president of the regional council who, however, invites us not to confuse “the generosity of the Lodge which provides 8.5 million euros every year to guarantee the bus service also in the 14 municipalities of the hinterland” with the institutional entity which has the task of financing supra-municipal infrastructures and local public transport: Lombardy Region. According to the Democratic leader «regional transport planning is absent and, due to this deficit, there is a lack of reflection from the province on the ways in which to develop public mobility”. To fill the void created by Attilio Fontana’s council, there is a need for bipartisan sharing not only in Loggia but also in Broletto and to plan the infrastructural choices of the coming years. With the now imminent renewal of the provincial council (only the mayors and municipal councilors of Brescia will vote) and with the limited spending capacity of the body «I hope that the unitary agreement will remain in Broletto and that this will allow the strategic objectives to be defined» explains Del Bono.

In fact, the vision of provincial public mobility cannot ignore the valorisation of the infrastructures present in the municipality of Brescia since they «have potential for development outside the city context. For example the light rail can be extended towards Val Trompia. Even the surface tram from the current terminus to the Fair could be extended to Roncadelle or Travagliato” underlines the vice-president of the regional council. Therefore, the leader of the Lombard center-left invites one bipartisan sharing at provincial level to have greater political weight also in negotiations with Pirellone because «in addition to capital resources, it is necessary to redefine the balances in the current part of the TPL. The charges for the Brescia light rail are provided by a national standard” comments Del Bono. According to the leader of the Democratic Party the Brescia-Iseo-Edolo train still needs to be unlocked every 15 minutes. And a more equitable distribution of resources is urgently needed: «Trenord drains Pirellone 542 million euros a year to transport 10% of Lombardy passengers when 90% travel by bus, coach and metro». In short, the current funding for mobility in Brescia is not sufficient to aspire to a Northern European transport service.
