Virtus Ragusa in Serie B, rewarded for years of commitment to bringing men’s basketball back into vogue, realized by the latest Sabbatini management

At the end of an exciting season, President Sabbatini’s Virtus Ragusa, excellently led by Gianni Recupido, managed to achieve the coveted goal of the national B series, the third Italian men’s basketball championship.
Years of effort and commitment have been rewarded to revive the same Virtus phenomenon of the last 20 years of the last century, also the result of a high-level management program.
Through various steps, we arrived at the current company led by Sabrina Sabbatini who, since her entry into the field, has shown the existence of the necessary elements for management, not only economic, legitimized to aspire to coveted goals.
The conquest of the B series comes on the day of the decline of football in Ragusa, due to the resignation of the Puma President, which shortly follows the disengagement of the Passalacqua family from the women’s A 1 basketball championship.
A sort of handover, which had been hovering over the city for some time, favored by the never-quenched passion of Ragusan athletes for local men’s basketball.
A new season now opens, we are certain that, on the wings of enthusiasm, President Sabbatini will soon initiate everything necessary for the next championship, in corporate terms and for the construction of a team that can also perform well in the higher division, maintaining high the prestige and tradition of the name Virtus Ragusa.
Even if we have news that we want to move in this direction as early as next week, it is still a time for celebration for a little while, especially for the public and athletes who want to fully enjoy the success.

The last match held one’s breath in suspense until the final seconds, it was certainly not a walk in the park, even if there was a lot of confidence in the final outcome, if only for the advantage of home advantage which, certainly, in this occasion, it served to give the people of Ragusa an edge.
Fundamentally balanced match, Virtus starts off strong, soon manages to extend the lead to 13-6 but Pesaro reacts and with a partial of 0-11 gets back into the game, managing to close the first half at 17-21

Even in the second half Pesaro becomes threatening, 20-27 at 13′ and reaches its maximum lead at 22-31, but Virtus reacts, taking it to 33-31 to close at the second siren at 36-35.

The turning point of the match was in the third half, despite Gaetano’s 4 fouls, the Ragusans imposed their game and in the middle of the half they were ahead by 9 points, 52-43, a margin they would keep at the penultimate siren, 59-50.

In the last half, Pesaro’s reaction was inevitable and they reasonably tried everything, initially in an unconvincing manner and with poor results, maintaining their concentration, however, they reached 2.52 minutes from the final siren at 67-66.
The match is reopened but Virtus shows no signs of slowing down, especially psychologically, the final minute is frantic, the game is fragmented, the final free throws are decisive, 0/2 for the guests, 2/2 for Gaetano, deserving of not having committed the 5th do it until the end. 73-70 with 13″ to go.
The final action of captain Sorrentino puts the result in the safe, final 74-72.
