“Closing the post office in the middle of summer? An irresponsible choice.” Mayor Lorenzo Alessandrini welcomed with great surprise and regret the news of the temporary closure of the Querceta post office since July after the alarm from CGIL and the opposition. “I consider what is happening to be enormous institutional misconduct – comments Alessandrini – as I have not had any official information from the Post Office regarding this provision and, above all, I am astounded by the fact that the enormous inconveniences resulting from the previous closure of the Quercetano office, which led to an unsustainable situation for my citizens”. The mayor refers to the closure following the attack on the ATM, which occurred one evening in July 2022, with the use of explosives which caused extensive damage to the post office building, so much so that a prolonged interruption of service was required to allow for complex interventions of recovery.

“In that case it was a closure due to reasons of force majeure – he adds – and which as mayor I followed closely and with the utmost understanding, even though I realized that the load on the Ripa post office entailed enormous inconvenience for citizens with endless queues under the summer sun, with dangers on the provincial road that runs next to the office, with an increase in inconvenience especially for elderly people “It seems very incorrect to me to let the news leak out a few days before the scheduled closure at the beginning of July – insists the mayor – and demonstrating that he had not taken into any consideration the enormous problems experienced with the previous interruption of the service. Given that this is not an emergency situation, I expected greater foresight and a sense of responsibility, planning the closure for another period of the year. We are talking about a fundamental post office not only for the Seravezza area but also in the Versilia area, with thousands of accesses. I only hope that the Post Office knows how to justify this irresponsible choice and that it is not just an expedient to ensure holidays for staff, compressing an essential service. Living near the Ripa post office, I will personally keep the situation under control on a daily basis and, in the event of problems for users, perhaps elderly people forced to queue for hours under the beating sun, I will reserve the right to take the necessary steps to protect my citizens”.
