Mysterious roar on the Tuscan coast. Fear between Livorno and Grosseto, excluding the earthquake

This afternoon, around 4.30pm, a loud bang shook the tranquility of the Tuscan coast, causing concern among residents and tourists in the affected areas. The event was felt mainly in the provinces of Livorno and Grosseto, including the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago.

The president of the region intervenes

The president of the Tuscany Region, Eugenio Giani, he intervened promptly on social media to inform the population and clarify the situation: “Checks are underway with the regional system – wrote Giani – at the moment there are no injuries or damage”. At first, it was assumed that it could be an earthquake. However, subsequent seismic surveys excluded this possibility: “From the seismographs and the surveys it would not be an earthquake”, specified Giani.

The reaction on social media

On social media, numerous users shared their experiences and feelings about the roar. Testimonies come from Livorno, Versilia, Argentario and even from the Island of Elba and Corsica. Many reported feeling their homes and windows vibrating. This phenomenon has led to a significant increase in calls to the fire department from concerned citizens seeking information.

The hypotheses and precedents

Among the hypotheses discussed to explain what happened, there is that of the sonic boom, although the affected area seems too large for such a phenomenon. Furthermore, in recent years, the Elba area has been the scene of numerous mysterious explosions, which have also attracted the attention of geologists. In the past, the hypothesis was formulated that the cause of them could be the so-called “mud volcanoes” which are found three-four kilometers deep in the body of water between Montecristo, Pianosa and Corsica. Not real magmatic craters but states of clay under which a large quantity of gas is trapped and accumulated which, as soon as they manage to create an opening, produce small explosions of methane, very similar to eruptions, which release columns of water. Another hypothesis is that the explosions could be caused by military aircraft passing over the skies over the island of Elba, breaking the sound barrier.

The authorities and ongoing investigations

Local authorities and geologists are working to clarify the origin of this mysterious roar. At the moment, there are no elements that suggest seismic events, but the investigation remains open to exclude other possible causes.

Conclusion

While the checks continue, the population of the Tuscan coast is waiting for answers. Today’s accident, although it did not cause any damage or injuries, shook the community, rekindling the memory of previous similar episodes. Regional authorities, together with firefighters and experts, will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates to ensure the safety of citizens.
