Sicily, ARS commission approves aid for over 37 million

“Faced with the worst water and climate crisis in recent history, Sicilian politics does not remain impassive, but moves to identify resources and tools to help the fundamental agriculture and livestock sector. In the Budget Committee we approved a package of support measures for farmers and breeders, to help them face this very difficult moment and to avoid the economic collapse of a key sector of our economy and our society”.
He declares it Stefano Pellegrinogroup leader of Forza Italia and member of the ARS budget commission, after the approval of the text of the bill to support agriculture, which will now be brought to the vote in the Sala d’Ercole Chamber. “Thanks to the sensitivity and attention shown by all the members of the Commission – Pellegrino continues – we have identified the availability of 35 million euros for direct support to the sector and other sums to be allocated to reducing credit costs, an essential tool at this time to avoid mass bankruptcy”.

In particular, the interventions approved by the Budget Committee include:

– 10 million euros for the payment of compensation to fodder and cereal producing companies;
– 10 million for livestock farms, for the purchase of fodder;
– 15 million for contributions to be allocated to water works such as tanks, wells, pumps, canalizations, irrigation systems, to be built during 2024.

“With respect to credit, the Commission has also provided for non-repayable contributions (for a total sum of 2.5 million) for the reduction of interest expense on loans already in place as of January 1, 2024, and has provided for the blocking of the collection of the water fees and consortium roles by the Irrigation Consortia”, concludes the note.
