He had been injured from some gunshots fired during a dispute between historic families of carnies that broke out yesterday evening, Wednesday 19 June, in Villafranca, in the Veronese area. Alberto Fiori, 75 years old, died this morning in hospital. Another of the people involved in the violent argument is hospitalized in serious condition.
The investigations
The investigations into what happened are entrusted to the operational department of the Verona Carabinieri, which, at the moment, maintains strict confidentiality on the contours of the affair, on the indications of the Verona prosecutor’s office. From what we learned, the argument broke out – apparently for trivial reasons – not far from the municipal swimming pool area, involving a family of carnies who participate in theAncient Fair of Saints Peter and Paul, scheduled for June 28th to 30th. The mayor of Villafranca, Roberto Dall’Oca, who has been in contact with the prefect and the police for two days, anticipated his intention to cancel the fair: «The atmosphere is heavy. A party was being organised, days of leisure awaited us and we never expected to experience something like this.”
The dynamics
According to the testimonies collected by the investigators, a first fight arose for reasons related to the spaces in which to place the rides inside the fair. During the scuffles, which involved around ten people, one of the litigants was seriously injured in the leg: a 49-year-old man, who after initial treatment was transported to the Borgo Trento hospital. It seemed, at that point, that things had calmed down and a… explanation between the parties, who had arranged to meet in viale Olimpia. On the contrary, the confrontation quickly became violent and one of those present pulled out a gun, exploding some shots at Flowers. The elderly man, seriously injured, was transported to the Villafranca hospital, where, as mentioned, he died after a few hours.
