CONSELVE (PADUA) – Attempted extortion and aiding and abetting illegal immigration: for these accusations the single-judge court of Padua sentenced the lawyer to 1 year and 9 months in prison Massimo De Zuani, 52 years old, resident in Conselve. The suspension of the lawyer’s sentence is conditional on the payment of compensation for damages to the two offended parties (a colleague and a citizen of Pakistan, a former client of hers), once the sentence has become final.
Massimo De Zuani: residence permits
It all started in June 2020 when, according to the investigations conducted by the public prosecutor Sergio Dini and the Mobile team of the Padua Police Headquarters, the lawyer De Zuani falsified an F24 form relating to the payment of 500 euros as a lump sum contribution for the process of issuing a permit to stay. The investigations delegated by the prosecutor’s office to the police crystallize that the lawyer put a false signature at the bottom of document F24. Furthermore, he had also completed all the paperwork for an employment which was also false in which he indicated that his client had been employed by a local agricultural company.
The attempted extortion
About a year later, in May 2021, something changes and the lawyer begins to threaten his client with blocking the practice despite having already received some tranches of payment from him. Given the situation, the man had decided to change lawyers, unaware that his move would also drag the new defender into the cyclone. Not satisfied with what he had already obtained, Conselve’s lawyer returned to the office saying that he would report the colleague who had replaced him and the former client himself. That, in an excess of anger on the part of the lawyer, he was also told that if he had not arrived at the office with 5 thousand euros, he would have thrown it from the terrace of the building.
The sentence
In addition to the year and 9 months of imprisonment, the sentence states that the lawyer De Zuani will have to pay a 400 euro fine and compensation of 3,500 euros to the civil party, a Pakistani citizen, and reimbursement of legal costs of 2 thousand euros. In addition to the compensation for the damage caused to the lawyer who took over from him in the defense of the client, established at 1,200 euros, in addition to the compensation of another 3 thousand euros in expenses. To this, judge Alessandro Gusmitta applied the conditional suspension of the sentence, subjecting it to the payment of the sums paid as compensation, within one year of the final sentence.
