Gang attacking ATMs stopped: attacks also in Abruzzo – News

The Foggia police have carried out an arrest order against eight people accused of criminal conspiracy aimed at aggravated theft from post office machines and ATMs, robbery, theft in commercial establishments, possession of weapons and manufacture of handcrafted products called marmots, similar to explosive devices used as weapons of war.

About 80 men employed in Cerignola in the executive phase.
The investigation, which began last February, arose after several robberies carried out with the use of weapons which caused strong social alarm in the community and which caused considerable damage to various businesses.
The in-depth investigations carried out by the staff of the local flying squad and the Cerignola police station, coordinated by the Prosecutor’s Office, have made it possible to identify the members of the group specialized in thefts from ATMs of credit companies even outside the province of Foggia and, specifically, in Basilicata, Campania and Abruzzo.

Standing according to what emerged from the investigations, the criminals, with their faces covered and armed, used homemade explosive devices to access the money deposit, also causing extensive damage to the buildings.

And after beingThose in possession of the money, in order not to be reached by the police forces, threw spiked bands onto the asphalt, jeopardizing the safety of the policemen.

Before acting, the gang carefully studied the areas, the routes to follow, the escape routes and the positioning of the city video surveillance cameras. After the robbery, they used powerful cars, often stolen or rented, to escape as quickly as possible. The goods stolen from the shops, for example scratch tickets and tobacco, were then resold. During the investigation, various devices, wigs, burglary tools and approximately 11 kilos of explosives were seized. The recovered stolen cars were returned to their rightful owners.
