ANTON SINTOV SURPRISES EVERYONE AT CHIES D’ALPAGO. ITALY INTERNATIONALS TO BERTOLINI

Chies d’Alpago (BL) – The second day of the Alpago Bike Funtastic, which ended today, Saturday 29 June, at the end of theAlpago Trophy, was totally dedicated to the fourth and final stage of the Internazionali d’Italia Series. Between the two women’s races and the men’s open which closed the program there was a break of an hour and a half with the 47 riders who knew they had to start at 3pm sharp.

At the end of the first three stages (San Zeno di Montagna, Esanatoglia, Nervesa della Battaglia) in the men’s elite category the leader’s jersey of the general classification was worn by Gioele Bertolini (KTM – Protek Elettrosystem) who had 160 points, but his advantage margin was narrow. Just 10 points away he was followed by Filippo Fontana (CS Carabinieri – Olympia) and then at 125 there was a rider in great shape, the Friulian Nadir Colledani (Santa Cruz Rockshox Pro Team).

So even though some big names from the Cup like Luca Braidot and Simone Avondetto were missing, the Belluno race was expected to be very hard-fought on a day with high temperatures and humidity. Instead, among the Under 23 boys, Matteo Siffredi (Scott Racing Team) was leading with 72 points, followed by Tommaso Ferri (62) and Fabio Bassignana (61).

PATH

The challenge took place on a course that was 90% the same as last year’s, with the addition of a few artificial obstacles. Chies d’Alpago consists of a main climb, perhaps the longest of the circuit, all in the woods on a beaten track but with many counter slopes and tight bends.

The first descent was modified after the double banked curve with an artificial jump and two logs that led to a short climb towards the main rock garden. Then we went up from the river to reach a new flat rock garden with logs that crossed and anticipated a wooden ramp with a sloping landing. Then the second half remains the same until the scaffolding bridge that has been lengthened.

THE RACE

At the end of the first interlocutory lap they all passed through the town together, in front there was the dark blue jersey, symbol of the first in the Internazionali d’Italia Series, worn by Gioele Bertolini. Not even in the second passage did the spark ignite, everyone was checking themselves, for this reason in the space of fifteen seconds fifteen riders passed and with his face to the wind there was the Russian Anton Sintsov.

Then when the big names decided it was time to do something, the Alpago Trophy received its first shock. Daniele Braidot broke away, ten seconds behind him were Nadir Colledani, Gioele Bertolini and his teammate in the CS Carabinieri – Olympia, Filippo Fontana from Treviso.

The latter was a team player, he had no interest in increasing the pace. The action of Mossa’s twin didn’t last long, he was caught and overtaken during the fifth lap, when the Russian returned to the lead from behind.

In the second part of the Alpago Trophy the two from Benemerita were unable to keep up with Sintsov, Bertolini and Colledani. These three studied each other in the fifth and sixth lap, then in the penultimate lap something happened. Sintsov began to feel his 39 years in his legs and lost contact with the Valtellina and Friulian riders who entered the eighth and final lap face to face.

At least that’s what everyone along the route thought, not Anton. The Russian who lives in Italy and who races with the KTM Alchemist by Brenta Brakes, the marathon team of the “Sampabros”, is back on the two escapees.

He reached and overtook Bertolini and then after 1 hour 20 minutes and 30 seconds he appeared alone on the finish line, winning without the need for a sprint. After a blink of an eye, Nadir Colledani arrived in second position, third at 14 according to Gioele Bertolini who concluded this first part of the season by definitively taking home the jersey of the Internazionali d’Italia Series.

Far behind were fourth Daniele Braidot (+2′ 39”) and fifth Filippo Fontana (+2′ 55”). The first Under 23 to cross the finish line was Marco Betteo from Piedmont. From the same category in the top 10 we also read the names of Fabio Bassignana (8th) and Alberto Capoia (10th). A twist in the overall, in the last race it is the Piedmontese Bassignana who wears the green jersey, taking it away from Siffredi, today 22nd overall and 14th Under 23.
