“We applaud the initiative of the Reggio prosecutor’s office which has highlighted pathological relationships between the world of politics and the criminal world, relationships which involve prominent political exponents of the Reggio parterre. Immediately afterwards, a festival began peppered with hypocrisy and declarations mainly oriented towards two possibilities: Commission or Resignation; a superficial, instinctive way of approaching more as a fan than a political analyst. From the published wiretaps, it appears that there is a political mix of criminality detrimental to the principles of democracy, legality and ethics, and unfortunately we also see the figure of the young political promise of the Mayor’s son involved”. This is what the Calabria Region Coordinator said in a note Sovereign People’s Democracy, Giuseppe Modafferi.
“The fact that these serious acts emerge only at the hands of the Prosecutor’s Office confirms once again the inability of the current parties to fulfill the mandate of opposition and therefore of control, one of the cornerstones of the democratic spirit, controls which must precisely stem any natural drifts by those who administer power. Where were the opposition councilors when the scion favored the hiring of the son-in-law of a well-known baton chief? Why over the years have the aforementioned councilors not noticed the anomalies of various kinds that have characterized the work of the young scion? (anomalous budgets, ambiguous hiring, off-budget expenses, etc.) And by chance of the failure to dismiss the relative of the Chief of Staff, the opposition councilors were distracted by what?”.
“It is touching to now see a (false and hypocritical) outcry inviting the scion to resign in the name of “love” for the city. Do those who make this request have a clear understanding of the moral and human profile of the interlocutor? At what point during his clouded administration did he show a minimum of love towards cities and citizens? If they had analyzed better they would have opted for other more impactful solutions (providing documents to the citizens, prosecutor’s office, Prefecture on the rottenness accumulated in 10 years of Administration)”.
“Regarding the Hamlet-like doubt that grips the city: Commission Yes – Commission No, DSP analyzes the problem from another aspect: the urgency of having real knowledge of the facts, an operation of transparency, clarity, on what is the administrative reality of the city from 2014 to today. Too many shadows, ambiguities and a condition of the city with third world standards”.
“We therefore ask that the institutional control bodies activate all the necessary initiatives to verify whether there have been actions detrimental to democracy and citizenship, that those responsible be identified and possibly condemned promptly with the sanctions provided. Reggio is a beautiful city, the people of Reggio are citizens who suffer (through no fault of their own) inconveniences caused by incompetence and backyard profiteering, in this historical phase what we need is a return to political honesty, a value that is general and not it is pertinent to pre-established alignments, an honesty that leads to an administration oriented towards the good and quality of life of the people of Reggio. We conclude with a thought by Benedetto Croce on political honesty: “… it is nothing other than political ability: just as the honesty of the doctor and the surgeon is his ability as a doctor and surgeon, which does not ruin and murder people with his own ignorance seasoned with good intentions and varied theoretical knowledge”. Beyond any technical bureaucratic expedient we ask for the restoration of conditions of Political Honesty, on which to restart the political, social and economic reconstruction of the city”.
