Maurizio Gasparri returns to Bari to support the centre-right candidate, Fabio Romito, in view of the run-off on 23 and 24 June. In the morning, the Forza Italia senator participated in a meeting in the centre-right electoral committee. “We are here – said Gasparri – to support our friend Romito who had the courage to support this difficult battle, and I thank him for his passion and commitment. Nothing is taken for granted, I am here to appeal to vote in Bari and then in Lecce because we believe these two ballots are possible and contestable”.

But Gasparri also returned to the events that have affected the city of Bari in recent months, starting with the judicial investigations, on which he had already expressed his opinion in the past, reiterating doubts and refocusing the issues raised. “I attended Emiliano’s Anti-Mafia hearing, and he didn’t convince me,” said the Italian senator. “Then there was also the hearing of the prosecutor of Bari, which is classified, I have limited myself to saying for weeks that seeing that hearing I understood why things go a certain way here in Bari, I won’t add anything else because it is classified , but I understood perfectly why in Bari a regional president can dismiss someone a few minutes after his arrest and say that it was a fortuitous combination, so I am absolutely not satisfied with this case”, said Gasparri again, who then again quoted a series of already known issues, such as that, already raised in recent days by the centre-right, of the chairmen of polling stations “replaced by the mayor’s cabinet” and that of the alleged infiltrations in the Municipalities, finally also the words of Don Angelo Cassano referred to Minister Piantedosi .

“I believe that there is a lump of power that suggests a change, therefore the appeal to the citizens of Bari not to give up. There is a system of power – he continued – which is not said to be illegal but which weighs on this city , which I hope has a jolt of freedom, of change, and wants to elect a young mayor, who expresses a different political, generational and behavioral orientation”.

Among the other issues raised by Gasparri also that of the lack of formal alignment between Laforgia and Leccese for the run-off: “Technicalities which are not illegal but are a way of occupying here and there – said Gasparri – The opposition has positions of a guarantee that should be shared, if Leccese wins, with those who vote for Leccese and pretend to be in opposition”. “They are trying to cheat – Gasparri said – and therefore I see everything as a whole, they are really occupying everything”.
