Penultimate weekend of programming for “Taurianova Legge”, the literary event certainly among the flagship events of the program of Taurianova, Italian Capital of the Book.

A weekend in which the city will be transformed into a large open air artist’s workshop thanks to the sixth edition of the Infiorata di Taurianova, an event twinned with Taurianova Capitale del Libro 2024 which from 21 to 23 June will color the entire course of XXIV May with its floral carpets candidates to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Saturday 22 June, at 10.30, in the “Antonio Renda” municipal library, appointment with the conference dedicated to the “Born to Read” project, the national program to promote reading aimed at families with pre-school children, developed in synergy between the Cultural Association of Paediatricians, the Italian Association of Libraries and the Center for Child Health.

After the institutional greetings from Rocco Biasi, mayor of Taurianova, during the event – moderated by the librarian Serafina Grillo – the following will speak: Maria Fedele, councilor for municipal culture of Taurianova and artistic director of TCIL; Alessandra Sila; director of the non-profit Child Health Center; Raffaele Tarantino, president of AlB Calabria; Tiziana Scarcella, contact person for AlB Nati per Leggere Calabria; Domenico Capomolla; regional contact for the Cultural Association of Pediatricians.

Thanks to the collaboration between different professional figures such as paediatricians and librarians, for over 25 years “Born to read” has been offering families with children up to 6 years of age free of charge various reading activities which constitute an important experience not only for the cognitive development of children children, but who also accompany parents in the education of their children.

During the conference, an important memorandum of understanding stipulated between the Municipality of Taurianova, the Taurianova Health Authority, the city’s schools of various levels (IC “Monteleone – Pascoli”, IC “F. Sofia Alessio – N . Contestabile”, the private nursery “Albatros” and the private nursery “Il Nido dei Folletti”), the family paediatricians, the Associations and Civil Society Council, and the “Accardi” and “PG Frassati” bookshops, for the implementation of the NpL project.
The objective of the protocol is to join forces, thanks to the collaboration between public, private and civil society bodies, for the implementation of various initiatives aimed at promoting reading in pre-school age, from increasing the book collection of the municipal library aimed at the 0 -6, to the organization of training courses for operators, readings aloud, information and awareness meetings dedicated to families.
The events dedicated to book presentations also continue. After the evening dedicated to “Incastri” by Anita Bruzzese and Mario Alberti on Wednesday 19th, on 20th June it will be the turn of “Le ali della fantasia” by Antonio Tramontana (at 6.00pm in the “Renda” library), while on Friday 21st Domenico Buffone will present “Giuseppe. The tenderness of a man, a husband, a father” (at 6pm in the Rosario Church). On Saturday 22nd there will be space for the presentation of “The train of the sun and the five anarchists. The shadow of Gladio” (at 7pm at the Rosario Church), while on Sunday 23rd, as part of the Infiorata, Angela Bubba will present her “Elsa” (at 6pm in the municipal library).
Until 11 July, in the “Renda” library it will also be possible to visit the exhibition “Man and solitude. Art & Recycling” by Andrea Topa, an artist who in his works assembles materials to transform them into precious objects with new meanings, capable of transmitting intense messages to the observer linked to the social and economic problems of humanity.
After having animated the city in the months of May and June with a rich programme, the Book Capital is also preparing to present the next events that will take place in the month of July: from the “extra time” of Taurianova Legge to the Book Fair which will take place will take place from 25 to 28 July. Four days of meetings, shows for adults and children and literary presentations which will host the stands of publishing houses, bookshops and associations, for a big party dedicated to the promotion of reading.
