For the production of green hydrogen in Calabria, authorization has arrived for the creation of a special economic zone which will host the production plant in Lamezia Terme with Pnrr funds
The project to create a project has been authorized Hydrogen Valley in Calabriaentrusted to Techfem who says he is optimistic about the 2026 target for the implementation of the plant, built in the former Sir area.
TO Lamezia Terme thus one of the will arise 28 production centers in the South (out of a total of 54 national sites) for the development of the hydrogen supply chain in Italyto be financed through Pnrr funds.
Hydrogen Valley Lamezia Terme is a project proposed by Teca Gas and designed and engineered by Techfema company from the Marche region that boasts international experience and collaborations.
The plant, which according to the designers’ ambitions will be operational as early as 2026, will produce hydrogen (2MW), will have storage and compression areas (up to 220 barg), will be powered by a 461 kW photovoltaic park and will also have a bay available of loading for filling cylinder wagons to transport hydrogen.
The job prospects include hiring 50 people only in the Lamezia Terme office. The project is funded under the National Recovery and Resilience PlanMission 2 Green revolution and ecological transition, Component 2 Renewable energy, hydrogen, network and sustainable mobility, investment 3.1 Production in abandoned industrial areas.
At a national level, to enhance the development of hydrogen supply chainhowever, it is necessary to resolve the problems of regulatory uncertainty which slow down the development of similar projects, extending the time required for granting construction authorizations for production sites.
