CSV Insubria would like to thank Arnaldo Chianese, outgoing councilor, for leaving space for young people, and Giovanni Boschini, Alessandro Libraga, and Alice Millefanti for their commitment in past years.

Marina Altana, new vice president, declared: “My name is Marina Altana and I have been active in the world of volunteering for ten years, in particular with the AVO (Association of Hospital Volunteers). In AVO I held various roles, including that of coordinator of volunteers in the departments. I am currently in my third term as a councilor. In the CSV I served as a councilor for a term and have now been elected vice president. This new position fills me with pride. During my mandate as a councilor at CSV, I tried to learn as much as possible, as it is an area I am not very familiar with. I hope to be up to this new responsibility. I will face the task with seriousness and dedication, doing everything possible to repay the trust that has been placed in me.”

How is volunteering changing and how can we as CSV accompany and support it? “In recent years we have recorded the struggles of even the most structured organizations – writes the president Luigi Colzani in presenting the 2023 social budget of CSV Insubria – the decrease in the number of volunteers, the growing difficulty, above all, in finding someone to take on the responsibility of the associations themselves. Young people then represent the most sensational point of the ongoing social transformation: they no longer find their place in organizations, especially in the more “identity-based” ones; at the same time they are generously present in particular when (and the President of the Republic does not fail to point out this) dramatic events call for their protagonism”.

“It is certainly not exhausted, with the creation of the single register of the third sector, the need to support and accompany the associations in the process of full and conscious implementation of the Third Sector reform – added Colzani – It is possible, however, to all work together to open a new phase, which does not ignore the challenges and difficulties present but faces them with a renewed awareness. The indications that we will be able to verify in the next three years are already there: an increasingly less instrumental relationship with the public administrations; the availability and ability to build coordination to enhance, in individual communities, the contribution of voluntary organisations, even small ones; the collaboration necessary to address complex problems (serious marginalization, restorative justice, promotion of the civil service, “local” healthcare, reception and integration of unaccompanied foreign minors…).
These seem to us to be the elements of awareness and the lines of work that we are handing over to the Board of Directors which will receive the mandate to implement in an ever more in-depth way – over the next three years – the role of the CSV as an “agent for the development of volunteering” in our communities”.
