Writer’s Friday with Donato Ladik in Moncalieri

Time, desire, pain: three intimately connected entities, three thorns in the side of every human soul. Three dimensions which – in the verses of the volume Between sand and sky (the author Donato Ladik presents it in Moncalieri at the next Writer’s Friday) – intertwine in various ways to compose a labyrinth colored by emotions, by nostalgia, by marine or domestic glimpses in which it is possible to fully enjoy the flavor of freedom. The appointment is at 5.30 pm on Friday 28 June at the Arduino library (via Cavour 31).

Donato Ladik, from Moncalier, has lived permanently in Hammamet in Tunisia with his wife Zamira Armitano for 9 years. From Avigliano, in the Potenza area, where he was born in 1949, he moved with his family to Moncalieri in 1956. His father Vito taught Latin and Greek to generations of Moncalieri residents until 1977.

After obtaining a degree in law he collaborated for some time with various newspapers, and then joined the Ministry of Finance as a customs official. In ’81 he started his own business, with social promotion activities and the organization of cultural events. The landing in Tunisia took place in 2015.

“What attracted us above all was the different life, the absence of stress and the friendliness of the people – says Ladik – It was not just a change of latitude, but a personal return to the game, making use of the experiences gained and the attitude towards social aggregation. In Hammamet I founded the association of Italians in Tunisia, which has 180 members, dealing with aggregation but also collaborating on film productions by providing Italian extras for Italian, Libyan and Tunisian films”. He himself has done various small parts in some successful productions, including Gianni Amelio’s film Hammamet with Pierfrancesco Favino.
