Urso meets mayors of the Aci-Etna area on the seasonally adjusted tourism development hub

Urso: “Pilot project also for other realities”

Systematize all the potential and beauties of the ACI and Etna area to create a hub of seasonal tourist-cultural development which could represent a pilot project not only for Sicily.

This is the focus of the meeting chaired by the Minister of Business and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, with the mayors of the Municipalities of Pact of the Aci and the Etna area, with the participation of the tourism councilor Elvira Amata on behalf of President Schifani. Also present at the meeting were technicians from Invitalia and the Ministry. The objective is to define a program agreement, a tool used so far for areas of corporate crisis, to guide the development of the Sicilian area, systematizing both the necessary infrastructural interventions related to hospitality and the measures to support businesses .

The idea was born from the recent financing of the “Cultural Hub delle Aci” Pilot Project promoted by the Municipality of Acireale, as the entity responsible for the Territorial Pact of the Aci. The plan was integrated and refinanced by Mimit so that it could be fully operational to implement development plans for the Sicilian territory thanks to a real system of cooperation between the Ministry, Region and Municipalities.

“Tourism is setting new records in Sicily and is already showing important signs of deseasonalization; it is time to build a system that can express its potential in every season, enhancing local peculiarities. In the area, it is possible to develop, alongside seaside tourism also the winter one, with the Etna ski resort, restore the spa activities, improve the nautical offer, strengthen the food and wine tourism already present in the wine district, enhance the cultural, religious, artistic and artisanal attractions of the Acese area. Etna, particularly rich in history and culture, but also from an environmental and landscape point of view, starting from Enta, presents the best characteristics to act as a pilot for a development model to be subsequently replicated in other areas”, declared the Minister of Business and Made in Italy, Adolfo Ursus.

Today’s meeting aims to start a process with the Sicily Region and the Municipalities to survey information, projects already operational and those that could be launched and resources to be put in place, which will subsequently see the involvement of other competent departments.
