Differentiated autonomy and “Praise of imperfection”. Reflections with Gabriele Bojano

With our columnist Gabriele Bojano, today a reflection on the 2024 maturity and the simultaneous approval of differentiated autonomy in Parliament.

It is certainly a coincidence, there is no doubt, that in the same moments that the first day of the 2024 final exams came to life, the Chamber of the Chamber ended the vote, after a river session that lasted all night, on Differentiated Autonomy, as requested by the majority. A resolution in front of which the opposition arose. Fate often sends signals; in fact, at the same time, the packages for the exam tracks for the Maturity of our students in the 5th year were opened, and among the current topics proposed at the first test, one addresses the question of imperfection as a distinctive and valuable element, starting from the book by Nobel Prize-winning scientist Rita Levi Montalcini, entitled “In Praise of Imperfection”.

Starting from the passage and starting from their own experiences, knowledge and readings, the student is asked to reflect on what meaning the praise of imperfection can have in contemporary society. One might say, but look at the case; the praise of imperfection. In those moments, students were concentrated and worried about finding, in the depths of their mind, those thoughts to line up to build a logical reasoning to transform into a paper to be delivered in the next six hours. I was saying, in those same moments, the government representatives, in truth especially members of the Northern League, were rejoicing at the approval of the measure in the Chamber, 176 yes. “Historic day”, as it was defined by the followers of the “carroccio”. In reality, the first to betray himself, without wanting to, by telling the truth of this measure which seriously risks dividing Italy, was the president of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana, on his social profiles, commenting on the approval of the Bill in the Chamber, in a burst of “Lombard pride” he wrote: “The Chamber has definitively approved the Bill on Differentiated Autonomy. Exceptional news for Lombardy and for the Lombards who, seven years ago, with a referendum, had clearly and clearly expressed their desire to go in that direction. With Autonomy we will have more skills in different subjects and we will be able to confirm our administrative capacity, making our region even stronger. (…) With Autonomy, Lombardy will be free to run even faster!”.

Here is the hidden truth that reveals the splitist plan of the followers of the “carroccio”. Therefore, on this day of final exams, it is singular that a track to be studied in depth by the graduates is “In Praise of Imperfection”. «Imperfection», Montalcini said, «has always allowed continuous mutations of that marvelous and ever so imperfect mechanism that is the human brain.» The differentiated autonomy that divides a country, ours, which does not appreciate the imperfection of the cultural diversity between the south and north of the peninsula, the absolute value that has made Italy.
