A threatening letter was delivered in recent days to Alfonso Carvotta, company union representative of Flai Cgil at the reclamation consortium 4 of Caltanissetta. A letter in which reference is made to the closest family members and to the activity within the “red” union. A complaint was filed with the police regarding the incident.
The letter expressly refers to the trade union activity carried out within the organisation. A complaint was filed about the incident with the police and Flai Cgil informed the Commissioner of the organization who convened the workers’ meeting with the presence of the consortium’s top management and the participation of not only Flai but also Fai Cisl and Filbi Uil.
Unanimous condemnation of the intimidating act which, says a note, “undermines the democratic action of the union delegates in the exercise of their functions”. The assembly expressed closeness and solidarity to the worker, urging him to “continue exercising his role, without being intimidated, to affirm the principles of legality, transparency and democracy in the workplace. The consortium and the trade union organizations present have committed to implementing “all the necessary measures to ensure that such events do not happen again. Furthermore, all parties will work to bring serenity to the workplace, overcome misunderstandings and guarantee the smooth carrying out of the activities and action of the union delegates”.
“The Flai CGIL is not intimidated by these para-mafia attitudes – states the general secretary Peppe Randazzo – and will continue in its control and protection activities foreseen by the national collective agreement. Evidently the activity carried out so far by Alfonso Carvotta and Flai with the Consortium has created some problems within the institution. We want to reassure everyone, our business will be stronger than before. It is not a threat that can stop the spirit of self-sacrifice and support for those workers who ask for greater support in their work and respect for the employment contract”.
