Cost of taxi licenses, Bologna surpasses Rome and Milan

The declarations would clash with the costs of licenses and the purchase of the car. It is the summary of the data released by the Ministry of Economy and published by Il Sole 24 Ore. According to the economic newspaper, the earnings of Italian taxi drivers they return to the income levels of the 2017-2019 period, therefore before the pandemic.

In 2022 they declare an average of 15,500 euros per year, i.e. 1,292 euros per month, despite the boom in tourism, after the dark period of Covid.

But under the two towers there is a certain agitation. Following the publication of a notice for the issue of 72 new licences, the category did not like it, giving rise to strikes and protests, like the last ones on 14 June, although, as the Municipality says: “Bologna, having 656 licences, could put up to 131 new licenses to tender”, in other words they could have almost doubled, as per legislative decree 104/2023.

The taxi drivers with the highest declarations are in Florence (20,651 euros per year, 1,720 euros per month) and in Milan (19,580 euros per year, 1,631 euros monthly), the lowest in Palermo (9,111 euros per year, 760 euros per month) and Naples (10,193 euros, 850 euros).

Taxi drivers’ costs

For the new licenses, around 150 thousand euros would be paid in Bologna. In Rome, 73 thousand, in Milan, 96 thousand. According to an investigation by Sole24Ore (20 January 2023) for an electric and hybrid vehicle the prices vary respectively between 45 and 60 thousand euros, and between 35 and 45 thousand euros, net of financing formulas and any state or local incentives.
