Summer announces itself with the first red dot for the heat, expected tomorrow in Perugia, and followed on Friday 21 June by another eight red stamps. This is indicated in the bulletin on the waves released by the Ministry of Health on its website. The red dot indicates the maximum level of risk for the entire population and indicates the arrival of heat waves «with possible negative effects on the health of healthy and active people and not only on risk subgroups such as the elderly, very young children and people suffering from chronic diseases”, we read on the ministry’s website.
For tomorrow, 15 cities in 10 regions are expected to have the orange dot, which indicates “weather conditions that may represent a health risk, particularly in the most susceptible population subgroups”. In Lazio, Frosinone, Latina, Rieti, Rome and Viterbo have the orange sticker; in Sicily Catania and Palermo, and then Ancona, Bari, Bologna, Campobasso, Florence, Naples, Pescara, Reggio Calabria.
On Friday 21st eight red-label cities are expected, four of which are located in Lazio (Frosinone, Latina, Rieti, Rome); the other cities are Ancona, Campobasso, Palermo, and Perugia. Heat waves occur when very high temperatures are recorded for several consecutive days, often associated with high levels of humidity, strong solar radiation and lack of ventilation. These climatic conditions can represent a risk to the health of the population. To communicate the possible health effects of heat waves, the ministry prepares daily bulletins for 27 cities with 24, 48 and 72 hour forecasts. Publication on the portal is active every year from May to September.
