The members of a criminal association specialized in drug trafficking and dealing have been identified and arrested. The policemen of the Catania Flying Squad, on the orders of the Catania court, carried out the custody order in prison against 13 people as part of the operation called “Devozione”.
The investigation, launched in June 2020, made it possible to reconstruct the criminal activity of the group, allowing at least 20 drug transports to be documented and approximately 11 kilos of cocaine, weapons and 90,300 euros in cash to be seized.
Starting from a group already known to the police for drug trafficking in the Catania area, the investigators managed to identify the supplier, a Calabrian who had been operating in Catania for years with the collaboration of some local criminals and who used cars with hidden compartments where he hid the drugs.
The operation conducted with the collaboration of the Flying Squads of Reggio Calabria and Syracuse was assisted by the Central Operational Service and under the direct coordination of the Central Anti-Crime Directorate of the State Police. Several crews from the Crime Prevention Department and the specialized team of the Regional Scientific Police Cabinet took part in the operation.
