Como, 4,290 hires are expected. 75% in tourism

In Como and its province there are 4,290 job offers open for this month of June, 11,160 in the June – August quarter, according to the census of the Excelsior information system, created by Unioncamere and the Ministry of Labour.

Hiring intentions were 4,650 in 2023: 360 fewer job offers in a year and, presumably, also according to a national trend, they are all in manufacturing where, at a national level, there was a 5.6% drop in job offers in the sector.

However, the entire Italian manufacturing sector is looking for a total of 84 thousand workers in June and 223 thousand in the quarter, but above all in the mechatronics, metallurgical and food industries. However, it should be noted that the most difficult type of worker to find of all are workers employed on machinery in the textile and packaging industry, “unfindable” for 76.3% of searches.

In Como, searches for industrial personnel account for 25% of the total, while services, in particular tourism companies, offer the greatest number of opportunities with 75% of offers.

Perhaps a further sign of a change that is taking place in the Como economy is also the data on the search for high-level profiles: Como is among the Italian provinces, after Milan, where there is a greater incidence, 14%, of searches of managers. However, it is above all employees and workers in commercial professions and services who have the largest share of the market with 46% of searches. Almost 25% of skilled workers are sought after and 15% of unskilled professions are sought after. Overall in Italy there were around 566 thousand job opportunities offered by companies in June and they rose to almost 1.4 million in the June-August quarter, with an almost stable trend compared to June 2023 (-0.3%) and a slight increase on the corresponding quarter (+0.6%). The best dynamics recorded in June were construction (+16.6%), trade (+10.5%) and advanced services (+11.5%). The demand for labor from the construction sector stood at almost 52 thousand hires in June and over 130 thousand hires in the quarter. But the majority of new employment opportunities are in services with 430 thousand job contracts offered by the sector in the current month and over 1 million expected until August.

The difficulty in finding personnel remains, which has reached 47.6% of the profiles sought, +1.6 compared to the previous year. There are around 270 thousand hires for which companies have declared they have encountered difficulties in finding the right profile. The Exchange of professions of the Excelsior information system highlights among the technical and highly specialized professions the technicians in the engineering field with 66.7% difficult to find, followed by the technicians of the management of the production processes of goods and services (58.5%), by commercial distribution technicians (58.1%), by IT engineers and technicians (both 56.7%). Among the figures of specialized workers, foundries, welders, tinsmiths, boilermakers, metal carpentry assemblers (75.1%), specialized workers involved in finishing constructions (73.1%) and tool manufacturers stand out due to difficulty in finding them. (70.2%).
