As we knew and as we expected, unfortunately the press release has arrived from Passalacqua, owner and sponsor of Virtus Eirene Ragusa, a women’s basketball sports club, of the renunciation of the Serie A 1 championship, where the team has played worthily for 11 championships.
Unfortunately, after unforgettable adventures, including the conquest of two Italian Cups and several Scudetto finals, the club is forced to inform the fans, the city and the institutions, that it has officially given up on playing the Serie A1 women’s basketball and requested the repositioning in Serie A2.
The decision would have been made after a careful analysis of the economic-financial situation, also and above all in light of the new sport reform last year.
The Passalacqua family is keen to underline, both from a first team perspective and for the youth sector, it will not lack commitment and support, reserving the right to illustrate the plans for the future as soon as there is certainty about the championship that will be faced.
The President, Davide Passalacqua, on behalf of the Company, in the press release wanted to extend thanks to the entire team of last season, as well as naturally to the coach Lino Lardo and the assistant coach Massimo Romano, for their commitment during the last season sport which, with the qualification for the Italian Cup Final Four and the conquest of the Scudetto semi-finals, was fully in line with expectations.
Nothing can be objected to regarding the company’s choices and decisions, some comments remain legitimate: the Passalacqua family must, however, be thanked and exalted for what it has given, for over 10 years, to a city, to a province, to enthusiasts and fans. .
Cities and sportsmen who certainly did not deserve so much commitment, except for rare occasions of public participation in sporting events.

After all, from what we have seen and what is typical of the Ragusa public, if there is no clear top position for the new team, the women’s basketball movement is destined to definitively decline.
Even the attitude of the company which continues to gloss over, talking about mid-July to communicate the programs, while the specialized press abounds with news of market operations of all the A 2 companies does not speak in favor of new programs that can enthuse the city .
