Rimini: the students of the “Belluzzi – Da Vinci” technician were awarded first prize in the “Creating with electronics” competition

The final of the national competition “Creating with electronics” organized by the teachers of the Institute itself and sponsored by the Ministry of Education and Merit took place on Saturday 25 May at the Galileo Ferraris state technical-technological institute in Naples. Four prizes are up for grabs in the utility, planning, social sensitivity and creativity categories. The final saw the participation of 11 projects from as many schools and selected out of a total of 43 participants from all over Italy. The students of the Rimini institute Antolini Alex, Casadio Massimiliano, Casali Filippo, Alfonso De Paoli and Ardi Demucaj of the VC class, accompanied by Prof. Marco Sanchini of the electronics, electrotechnics and automation department, deserved the first prize in the utility category by presenting the “ECOWATT” project which makes the energy efficiency of a school building possible in a simple way.

The idea was born from the primary need to take care of the place we go to every day: school. By using a microcontroller for each classroom (very widespread and very low-cost electronic equipment), the building’s energy consumption can be significantly reduced without resorting to standard market solutions that are often quite expensive. This creates an effective low cost system to reduce the environmental impact of our institute and the costs of electricity and gas bills. The system, designed by the students of the electronic class 5C, participated in the competition by improving and perfecting what was developed in the PCTO (former school-work alternation) experience during the last school year. The project is based on a prototype that simulates the functioning of a school classroom, making its operation completely automatic with the switching off and/or regulation of the lighting and heating systems in the absence of occupants, via an electronic system that allows savings on the bill up to 30%. The payback time is approximately three years, therefore very short. The jury, made up of teachers of the subject, experts and entrepreneurs in the sector, considered the Rimini project to be the most useful compared to the other participants and congratulated the winners. The result achieved rewards the commitment and spirit of initiative of this group of students who received the maximum possible support from the entire teaching and non-teaching component, from the administrative staff and from the director Prof. Sabina Fortunati, testimony to the strong bond with the territory, companies and institutions also at a national level by the ITTS “O. Belluzzi – L. da Vinci” of Rimini.
