A plan for the heat emergency in Turin
This morning, Tuesday 18 June, the Turin municipal council – upon proposal of the councilor for Social Policies Jacopo Rosatelli – approved some lines of intervention whose goal is to create a safety net that helps people in fragile conditions to cope better discomfort caused by the heat and support them in their daily lives.
“Climate change has a greater impact on people at a social disadvantage. – says Jacopo Rosatelli – We are working to progressively adapt all our actions to this emerging challenge as demonstrated by the act approved this morning.”
In particular, for the summer of 2024, in continuity with previous years, the City has defined a operational plan that predicts home interventions (by specialized personnel) aimed at elderly and frail people; accompanying and support activities (created by specialized third sector bodies with the support of the City) which are integrated with the “light home confinement” measures and with the provision of air-conditioned meeting centers by the Districts and the municipal Civil Protection as well as an information campaign on the risks arising from high temperatures and the services available.
Furthermore, it was extended for the entire summer periodreception in Building C of the former Buon Pastore complex in Corso Regina Margherita 153. The structure, opened last December, offers temporary hospitality to homeless people, unaccompanied foreign minors and families awaiting relocation.
