Hot temperatures are expected in Palermo next Saturday, June 22nd. The summer sun and heat, of course, but above all the climate will become hot for the big party Pridewhich starting from 3pm will run from via Roma to via Cavour, then via Ruggiero Settimo to reach the Zisa cultural sites.
Along the procession, 11 floats and 2 trains will parade and a series of flash mobs are also planned. And then meetings, shows, concerts, with the two godmothers of the event, the actress Simona Malato and the rapper Big Mamaready to further warm the hearts of the participants.
This year’s theme is male violence. “We chose the events that occurred in Palermo in July last year – explains the event coordinator Daniela Tomasino – the gang rape, a terrible act that made an impression, but also the reaction that occurred afterwards”.
But the intent of this review is also another. “Pride becomes a container for a series of struggles against oppression – he adds –. We say that we need to take to the streets for the planet, for Palestine, for Ukraine, we need to take to the streets for women’s rights, for example legal and safe abortion is becoming impossible rather than a right.”
Tomasino presented the event together with the mayor of Palermo Roberto Lagalla and Malato, this morning at the Massimo theatre. “Work is a utopia, if you work you don’t get paid – he adds -. If I have rights and those around me don’t have any, my rights become privileges. This is the meaning of Pride.” During the presentation, Luigi Carollo, the soul of Pride Palermo, who passed away last April, was also remembered.
“I believe that the orientation of the municipal administration with respect to the protection of rights and the recognition of identities is known and peaceful – declares Mayor Lagalla -. This happened in the past and happens in the present, certainly when work is done and we look at the community with interest and attention, political prejudices and partisan prejudices disappear. Pride is a celebration. an identity celebration that the city welcomes and that the city must know how to listen to”.
