The Civil Protection Functional Center of the Campania Region has issued a criticality warning for “Heat wave” following the current weather conditions. The notice will be in force from 2pm tomorrow, Wednesday 19 June, and will last approximately 66 hours. During this period, maximum temperatures are expected to be 5-6°C above the seasonal average, especially on Thursday 20th and Friday 21st June. Furthermore, the humidity rate, particularly in the evening and night hours in the coastal sector, may exceed 60-70% in conditions of poor ventilation.
The competent local authorities have been invited to implement their relevant procedures to ensure the supervision of the most vulnerable sections of the population. Among the main recommendations are:
Avoid going out during the hottest hours: It is strongly recommended not to go out during the central hours of the day to avoid direct exposure to the sun and intense heat.
Limit Outdoor Physical Activity: Avoid engaging in physical activity outdoors during the hottest hours, as it can increase the risk of heat stroke and dehydration.
Reduce Car Travel: Limit car use to prevent heat stroke caused by high temperatures inside vehicles parked in the sun.
Attention to People at Risk: Particular attention must be paid to heart patients, the elderly, children and those at risk, who are more vulnerable to the effects of the heat.
Ventilate the rooms: Keep the rooms properly ventilated to prevent overheating of the internal spaces.
Adequate Hydration: It is essential to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water to prevent dehydration.
Pet Care: Also pay attention to pets, making sure they have access to fresh water and shaded places.
These measures are critical to protecting people’s health and well-being during heatwaves. Adopting appropriate behaviors can significantly reduce the risks associated with these extreme climate conditions.
