A new piece has been added to the puzzle of doubts and questions surrounding the weeks preceding the attack Hamas of the October 7. The public broadcaster Kanwhich cited security forces sources, revealed the existence of a document drawn up on September 19th by the Directorate of Military Intelligence of the IDF.
In it, there would be thewarning that Palestinian terrorists were preparing for a large-scale invasion of Israel, during which mass hostages would be taken. The estimate contained in the document would be 200-250 kidnapped, an almost perfectly accurate figure given that during the assault 251 people were brought to the Strip, while another 1,200 were killed. It appears that the report was brought to the attention of senior officials of theintelligence of the division of Gaza. As recalled by Times of Israel, during the months of conflict the military leaders and the government declared that at the time they had not been warned of an imminent invasion. Furthermore, the most extreme scenario for which the troops on the border with the Palestinian exclave had prepared was the irruption of dozens of terrorists from three points of the border, many fewer than the approximately 3 thousand who took part in the Bloody Shabbat assault.
The document the broadcaster spoke about Kan It’s not the first of its kind. Already in December 2023, the New York Times reported that some of its reporters had viewed a 40-page dossier dating back to the previous year and compiled by Israeli intelligence. According to what was declared by the American newspaper, they were described in it with extreme precision potential Hamas attacks that materialized on October 7 but, according to an email exchange between senior intelligence officials, these plans were considered “imaginative”. The report was also cited in July 2023 by a veteran of the8200 unit, responsible for spying on electronic signals. The soldier had warned of major mass exercises by Hamas, aimed at implementing the attack plan against the Jewish state. Once again, however, the alarm had been underestimated.
Last May, four letters dating back to the first months of 2023 emerged, written by the security services and sent to the prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
According to what was reported by the Jerusalem Post, it was underlined in them that “the enemies of Israel” they perceived the social divisions in the Jewish State and their effects on both the nation and the IDF. The prime minister’s office responded by stating that none of the letters indicated Hamas’s intention to attack Israel.
