The Busto Arsizio State Police conducted two operations which revealed cases of alleged mistreatment by husbands towards their wives, in the presence of minor children. Both operations ended with the arrest of the attackers.
The initial intervention, which took place on Saturday evening, was requested by the couple’s teenage son, alerted by his mother who had taken refuge on the balcony to escape her husband’s attack. When the police entered the apartment, the man appeared hostile and clearly drunk, while the woman was terrified and in pain from the blows she had suffered; her television had been destroyed by a chair that her husband had thrown at her. It immediately became clear that Saturday’s episode was just the latest in a series of physical and psychological abuse, fueled by the man’s alcohol abuse. The latter, a 55-year-old Romanian citizen, was arrested and taken to prison in agreement with the prosecutor on duty.
The second intervention, which took place on Sunday evening, was requested by some neighbors of a couple who heard the woman’s desperate screams. When the police arrived in via Ugo Foscolo, the husband, clearly impaired by alcohol and perhaps also by drugs, attempted to downplay the incident by describing it as a normal marital quarrel. However, this version was contradicted by the condition of his wife, who was found in tears and in pain on her bed, hugging their little daughter.
The officers verified that the man, in the throes of a fit of jealousy, had accused his wife of infidelity, then dragged her out of bed by pulling her hair and hit her in the face with his fists, causing facial trauma and a probable fracture of the nasal septum. All this happened in the presence of her daughter, who was in the bed with her mother. Since it was not an isolated incident, the man, a 40-year-old Italian, was arrested and taken to prison.
