L’Aquila will host the General States of Reading on June 28th and 29th, promoted by the Center for Books and Reading of the Ministry of Culture.
The Municipality of L’Aquila, with the resolution approved by the council proposed by the mayor Pierluigi Biondi, will join and participate in the initiative, which will take place in the Sala Ipogea of the Hemicycle and will be opened by the Minister for Culture, Gennaro Sangiulianowith the involvement of prominent personalities involved in the field of reading promotion, Abruzzo operators in the supply chain connected to its promotion, as well as representatives of the Municipalities involved in the Reading Pacts and in the “City that reads” project.
The latter is also a recognition aimed at by the Abruzzo capital which in December approved the outline of the “Local Pact for Reading” project for the purposes of its candidacy with the aim of encouraging the role of reading for the purposes of inclusion beyond that of growth and training of the young generations. The next issue of the magazine Città che legge, edited by the Mic Book and Reading Centre, will be dedicated to the city of L’Aquila.
“Reading is one of the bulwarks on the path to developing culture and caring for the civic conscience of communities. In this spirit we intended to promote the provision of vouchers for the purchase of books among newly eighteen-year-olds with book bonuses. – explained the mayor, Pierluigi Biondi – Furthermore, this land has left traces in the works of some of the most important exponents of Italian literature in the world and the literary benches, positioned in some areas of the historic center and bearing quotations from Hemingway, Silone, Merini or GaddaI am testimony to this. The States General of reading take on an extremely important role in the process of moving towards the 2026 Italian Capital of Culture and confirm L’Aquila at the center of dynamics strategically connected to the promotion of reading and dialogue between publishing entities and local institutions”.
