Pensioner strangled at home in Siena, murderer sentenced to life imprisonment

Anna Maria Burrini got justice. Her killer, Volodymyr Uzdienov, a 40-year-old Ukrainian citizen, was punished with life imprisonment. In reading the sentence, judge Fabio Frangini underlined the absence of the aggravating circumstance of premeditationbut the maximum punishment was imposed due to the existence of the teleological connection, i.e. murder as a consequence of a robbery.

To the granddaughter Viktoriia Mitioglio, 27, also from Ukraine, was given a 24-year sentence for complicity into murder.

Burrini, 81 years old, was killed inside her apartment, not far from the historic center of Siena, on September 26, 2022. The two defendants had tried to drug her to steal valuables and cash. The attempt, however, was unsuccessful the man had strangled her with a noose. The body was then moved and placed in the bedroom.

The two were then stopped by the Flying Squad a few days later. They still had the stolen goods. Less than 2 thousand euros and some jewels.

The prosecutor’s office, represented by prosecutor Sara Faina, had requested life imprisonment for both. The two were also ordered to pay 160 thousand euros for the civil parts and compensation for legal costs.
