Probably a stunt by young people. This could be the cause of the fire that partially damaged the “Locanda di Emmaus” in Herculaneumthe youth pastoral center, a former pub taken from the Camorra, which for almost 30 years has been managed by Don Pasquale Incoronato, parish priest of Santa Maria del Pilar, to offer an alternative to the children of the area. «Just a stone’s throw from the inn – explains Father Incoronato – in via Aldo Moro, there is a hidden area, little frequented and abandoned to decay, where small groups of young people hang out, and where unfortunately drug dealing is also practiced with impunity, without check”.
It is here that shortly after 11.30 pm last night the fire broke out, probably starting from some plastic ivy leaves, perhaps as a joke, then the flames broke out. Luckily it was still early, there were people looking out from the balconies who noticed flames and smoke and notified the firefighters. «Thanks to their intervention we avoided the worst – continues the priest – if it had happened around 3 in the morning, I don’t know what would have happened. What’s unfortunate is that this is a free zone, out of control. It leaves a bitter taste in the mouth for the degradation that surrounds a symbol of the fight against deviance. The structure suffered damage to the iron fence but this morning I was forced to open anyway because I didn’t want the 120 children from the summer oratory to stay at home.”
The “Inn of Emmaus” is a former pub where the owner was killed more than thirty years ago. It hosts the youth pastoral center and the San Domenico Savio oratory which has been a fundamental reference in the heart of Resina for over 20 years. It currently welcomes, among the various laboratory, catechetical and territorial educational activities (from first grade to 16 years old), over 250 young people. Among the latest initiatives is Resina Got’s Talent, a soft skills laboratory, while on June 25th a listening center named after Serena will be inaugurated, a girl from the oratory who unfortunately committed suicide, whose furnishings have been donated from the Cannavaro Ferrara foundation. “We are people with our hands raised, not as a sign of surrender but of resistance and we will not stop in the face of any obstacle, because we know we are on the right side”, concludes Father Incoronato.
