The mayoral candidate of Perugia will vote for the centre-left Vittoria Ferdinandi in next Sunday’s run-off, Massimo Monni, who in the first round led the third of the five current coalitions, with 1.4% of the vote. He announced it today during a press conference. Monni explained that his civic list, Perugia Deserves (defined as a popular reformist project), is not aligned with either of the two candidates “since the group is made up of representatives of different sensitivities and therefore each candidate will vote according to conscience”. He personally instead announced that he will vote for Ferdinandi. “I believe – he explained – that she has enthusiasm, intelligence and genuineness. Qualities that I highly respect. I also appreciate those of the other candidate but at this moment I recognize myself more in Ferdinandi. Because democracy matters and change is democracy. If I ran it was because I was disappointed by these ten years of Andrea Romizi’s mayorship. I believe that Vittoria Ferdinandi has the ability and autonomy to govern this city. I am convinced that you will be able to keep the parties at bay and make a program based on your ideas. On the other hand, I think the candidate for mayor (Scoccia, ed.) is very influenced by the colonels of the parties and I don’t like this”. Regarding the accusations of extremism leveled against Ferdinandi, Monni reiterated that his “is a reformist-socialist culture” and Perugia deserves to “go forward”. The ambition is to strengthen “a reformist and popular project that confronts democratic forces”. He bluntly defends the centre-left mayoral candidate. “I know Vittoria Ferdinandi well – said Monni – and the choice falls on her human abilities and qualities. It’s not true as some people portray it. She is an intelligent and very balanced person”. Among other things, Monni spoke about the meetings he had with the two candidates. “The centre-right one – he explained – offered me an important role within the municipal council while the centre-left one explained to me that politically at that moment she was not able to offer me a role”.
