130 intelligent bins and fifty ecological islands for the collection of technological waste will arrive in Bergamo.
Calls for tenders with European funds
The Municipality has in fact published the purchase notice for both one and the other, of 780 thousand euros and 295 thousand euros respectively, both financed by the Pnrr. The smart bins will be able to compact paper and plastic up to five times compared to the original volume, and will be positioned in the most frequented places, both in the Upper and Lower Town, but also near the stadium.
The ecological islands, however, will be above ground, also technological, and will be used for the disposal of so-called “WEEE” waste, therefore old technological devices, such as cell phones, PCs and household appliances. In this case, they will be located in the areas of schools, parks, oratories and sports and commercial centres. At the moment, there is no certain timeframe for the arrival of the new devices, but the two notices aimed at companies in the sector will expire between 4 and 5 July.
Innovative tools
The new bins will be equipped with technological devices, they will emit sounds and vocal messages after use, they will have sensors to control volume and filling and the compactor will allow the ecological operators’ vehicle passages to be reduced. The signal on the filling status of bins and ecological islands will be sent remotely to the system, accessible to employees also via app.
Attention has also been paid to safety, given that the baler will be equipped with an anti-intrusion system and the door for emptying will only be accessible to operators, via a special card. Furthermore, the bins will be free to use, while the ecological islands for WEEE will have a recognition device, to manage collection campaigns and introduce reward mechanisms for users.
