A rich program with Puccini, Tchaikovsky, Gershwin and De André

The Matera Symphony Orchestra will inaugurate the 2024 concert season starting in July, with a program that includes works by Puccini, Tchaikovsky, Gershwin, De André and Stravinsky. With 33 concerts scheduled and a significant commitment in terms of working days and ticket sales, the Orchestra continues to pursue its mission of disseminating symphonic music and educating audiences. The president of the Matera Symphony Orchestra Foundation, Gianna Racamato, declared: “2023 was a year of important confirmations for the Matera Symphony Orchestra, characterized by an intense program of activities that offered significant job opportunities to young talents of the territory”.

The president of the Province of Matera, Piero Marrese, underlined the importance of the Orchestra for the young people of the area: “The Matera Symphony Orchestra is a hotbed of talent and is everyone’s heritage”. Even the mayor of Matera, Domenico Bennardi, expressed his enthusiasm for the project: “The Matera Symphony Orchestra represents the concrete realization of the dream of seeing a Matera symphony, valorising local artistic talents”. The auditions for the 2024 season, which will be held from 18 to 29 June at the ER Duni Conservatory in Matera, attracted around 300 candidates from different parts of the world, with a significant presence of young people under 30.

The artistic director of the Orchestra, Saverio Vizziello, declared: “We are very satisfied with the results achieved last year and we want to continue working as best we can to achieve increasingly ambitious goals.” Among the events scheduled for the summer months, two projects stand out: one dedicated to serenades with string concert and recitation of love poems, and the other to the figure of Fabrizio De André with the orchestral body accompanying the voice of Mario Rosini. The winter portion of the concert season will be presented in September, which will include pieces by Gershwin and Bernstein to celebrate the 100th anniversary of “Rhapsody in Blue,” as well as an autumn program dedicated to Puccini and a December concert featuring the music of Tchaikovsky.
