Leone Ortega and the Giro d’Italia by canoe: Catanzaro enthusiastically welcomes the ecological adventure of environmental awareness and protection of the Italian seas
Tomorrow, Saturday 8 June, the city of Catanzaro will be the venue for a very special stage of the Giro d’Italia in Canoe. The well-known sportsman Leone Ortega, protagonist of this ecological adventure, will land on the coasts of the Calabrian city, bringing with him a message of environmental awareness and commitment in the fight against plastic pollution that threatens our seas.
The event, organized in collaboration with the Plasticfree Onlus association, committed for years to protecting the sea from plastic, is part of the “Wind of Change” project. This initiative is not just a sporting adventure, but an opportunity to involve local communities and promote the protection of the marine environment through concrete actions.
The Giro d’Italia canoe route began on May 1st from Venice and will end in Genoa in September. Along the way, Leone Ortega will collect scientific data on the Italian seas, thus offering a valuable contribution to research on the health of marine ecosystems.
The arrival in Catanzaro will be welcomed by the deputy mayor Giusy Iemma at the Port area, from which the canoe excursion will start towards the landing point set on the Giovino beach, scheduled for 5.30 pm at the Moon Beach lido. The entire citizenry is invited to participate in this moment of sharing and awareness, during which Leone Ortega will have the opportunity to talk about his experiences and the first results of his adventure on the Italian seas.
This stage of the Giro d’Italia in Canoe is a unique opportunity to combine sport with environmental protection and involve the community in safeguarding our seas for future generations.
